Douglas R. Hofstadter
Do you know Douglas Hofstadter? He’s got his own page on wikipedia, and so does his first book, Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid so it must be worth something :)
Last I checked, he was still at the Center for Research on Concepts and Cognition leading the FARG. See the Cognitive Magnifesto, by Michael Roberts: “The ideal Magnificat, the magnificent Magnificat, should have a sense of humor” to get an idea what this bunch is working on.
