Debian Package a Day

“A journal devoted to introducing people to new Debian packages they might not know about. Every day, a different Debian package is featured from the sarge distribution. If you know about an obscure package you think others should know about, send it to debaday at perlocity.org and I’ll try to work it into the playlist.”

sl, the little train that could

One of the package I install systematically on every machine I can is sl. Yesterday, sl was featured on Debian Package a Day. I’ve been installing sl since about 2000 and I just love showing it off. It also has an excellent track record. The other day, a friend was installing gentoo, which I had never seen. Well, emerge sl did the obvious, only when we ran it, me and my friend starred at 15 long wagons, for over a minute with no way (well, another console would have let us killed it, but I was too curious) to break it, and just as long for the train to finish its round trip. I noticed -e isn’t a normal ls option, perhaps we could update the sl package with the gentoo source and run that when provided the -e option?
