Stateless steal

I’ve recently switched to Firefox from Mozilla and been experiencing less browser crashes lately. Most of the problems I’ve had are due to a confused focus and modal dialogs, preventing me from closing the application properly.

Now this is where their behavior differ and any crash is exacerbated. Instead of keeping a trace of the last visited sites, either automatically through its history, or manually with bookmarks, Firefox just drops the ball. If you can’t close the application properly (a simple kill isn’t even gentle enough) you can forget about all your open tabs and windows and URLs therein.

The more I’m thinking about it, the more I feel like installing a web proxy and/or cache that’s designed to keep such logs. I can always hope that all bigs will have vanished, but I’m not holding my breath.

Oh, and please, don’t read this as a generic complaint against Free Software or any software at all. Only, after butting one’s head against the same problems time and time again, one develops a few reflexes to make things pleasant again, and most importantly, predictable.
