Ken Wiwa, renowned journalist, author and human rights activist, will speak at Concordia University on Thursday March 10th. The talk is entitled ?Human Rights, Corporations, and Your Campus? and is part of the Know War Project. The event is open to the public and admission is free. His speech will be followed by a question and answer period with the audience. TheConcordia Community Solidarity Co-op Bookstore will also be present with copies of Wiwa’s book “In the Shadow of a Saint”.
Ken Wiwa became an activist during the international campaign to save his father, the outspoken author and ecologist, Ken Saro-Wiwa, who was wrongfully executed by a dictatorial government protecting Shell Oil?s interests in Nigeria in 1995. Ken Wiwa continues to speak out concerning the effects of globalization and the corporate agenda on human rights.
The Know War Project is a collaborative effort between various student organizations at Concordia and McGill Universities. The campaign aims to expose the connection between military corporations and Canadian campuses. The campaign will culminate with a referendum question which aims at limiting the influence of such corporations on public institutions of higher learning.
