A preview of Nitwit is now up, destined to be another brick in the free software wall. It should run on “linux”, windows, mac and everywhere php and gtk are available. I use it to post to twitter and jaiku for now. Thanks to Frédéric Guimont for the graphics and ideas.
One thing leading to another, I found myself writing yet another bot, this time for twitter which I’ll expand on one of these days. It’s very preliminary, doesn’t do anything really public yet (let me know if you want to beta test) but it’s got a nice icon ;) Meet twrl, by twitter bot. It’s also a Jabber (XMPP) bot, but that is another story.

This script is part of my setup to post to twitter
and an IRC channel from my desktop.
It depends on php, ii, wmii and gmrun to implement my whole scheme,
but can be easily adapted to suit your needs.

Following up on my messy upgrade post, this part is in english. It just came out like this (probably from reading the english bug reports). Oh well, I don’t feel like translating it…
The turck mmcache bug was already reported for Debian. This will only affect you if you’re upgrading to php 4.3.10. Turck mmcache won’t be updated anymore, since his author went to work for Zend and lost interest. The good news is there’s a sequel in the works: eAccelerator. The bad news is the licence. Strangely enough, its GPL status is a big problem. You can’t link a GPL library to the PHP core because of a licence conflict. So, can we convince those programmers to relicence their code to BSD or the PHP licence?

“In a move that reflects the growing power of the open-source programming movement, Sun Microsystems plans Monday to share a modest chunk of Java source code, an experimental user interface for desktop computers called Project Looking Glass.” — Stephen Shankland for globetechnology
“Sun Microsystems today underscored its commitment to open source and desktop technology leadership by contributing Project Looking Glass and Java 3D technology to the open source community. This contribution will unleash a new dimension of developer innovation by making Sun?s cutting edge technology available at Sun’s 3D Desktop Technology Open Source Project on java.net.” — Sun press release
The question is, “Is Java cooling off?”
