Good copy bad copy

Filed under: English, anglais, copyright, culture, video Robin @ 13:56 (1521 lectures)

Update July 15, 2007: Henrik took the time to respond to a few questions through Maxime’s blog. Most important to note is the licence, Creative Commons BY-NC v3.

A documentary film from Denmark about the current state of copyright and culture. See Good copy bad copy for more info.

You can download the entire movie with bittorrent, which is what I am about to do. Oh, and you can donate too :)

I took some time to write all the text: Good Copy Bad Copy script. I was going to translate it for subtitles, but it’s getting a bit late and, well, I didn’t take note of the timing. Maybe later.

Ted Nelson on how the web got it all wrong (but we can fix it)

Filed under: English, anglais, google, histoire, video, web2.0 Robin @ 04:26 (948 lectures)

Ted Nelson was giving a Google Tech Talks on January 29, 2007. I’m not going to comment, I haven’t sent it yet. But Xanadu, come on! It’s the biggest return since Duke Forever!

Everyone wants to improve on Web structure, but few see how stuck it is– the browser … all » limits what can be seen, and the one-way embedded links limit connectivity. I still want to implement the original hypertext concept from the sixties and seventies. Politics and paradigms, not possibility, have held it back.

Wanna work together, latest Creative Commons promotional video

Filed under: English, anglais, copyright, creativecommons, droits d'auteur, free, video Robin @ 21:56 (3389 lectures)

Digg it!

Looking at my TechTalks Tagcloud, I just discovered this talk by Mike Linksvayer (CTO of Creative Commons). In it was this unreleased 3 minute video: Wanna work together, CC promotional video to be released in november 2006 [10 MiB], Creative Commons Attribution licence 2.5. I had to extract it, convert it to ogg theora and now you can watch it too downloading only 10 MiB instead of 220 MiB for the whole hour talk.

Update: Mike posted his CC slides online, acknowledging that the text could have been bigger.

Update2: Creative Commons just released the real thing. See their blog for more info.

#999: Google TechTalks Tag Cloud

Filed under: English, anglais, communication, google, video Robin @ 21:23 (1272 lectures)

In my effort to keep up with the Google TechTalks, I’m keeping a database to index their videos and just made it public after I added this TagCloud view of the Google TechTalks. It’s not much for now, I intend to provide RSS/Atom feeds and let you review and tag the videos. You can already do all this directly from Google Video, but this way I’m concentrating the crowd on a tiny subset of the videos. Not even 200 as I’m posting this, but then again, we’re talking about 200 hours of excellent presentations with top notch speakers and cutting edge topics.

Pity the bored Montreal geek

Filed under: English, FLOSS, Montréal, anglais, conférence, free, free software, logiciel-libre, software, video Robin @ 18:22 (1722 lectures)

It’s Satuday (October 21st 2006 in Montreal this time but it could be any Saturday) and the geek inside you is torn over this very important question: BarCamp, Blender or Free Software Workshop? I tell ya, it’s tough to be a geek in Montreal.

P.S.: there was an Installfest scheduled for Saturday too, it’s been postponed until the Quebec Free Software Week (SQIL) mid-November.
